After screening our concepts, our top three were the Crane tilt design, the Push rod design and the Wire-Gear design. With the reduction of viable concepts, we created a concept selection matrix to pick a design. To score our designs, we gave a weight from 1-5 for our criteria and rated how well each of the last three designs meets those criteria. By multiplying these numbers, we can get a weighted score for how well the design will be to use.
Concept Selection Matrix
As a result of the concept selection matrix, we decided to go with the Crane Tilt design as it has the highest weighted score of our designs. In addition, the design outranks the next design by a significant amount. We decided that this design is worth pursuing as it best meets the criteria we desire for our project. These scores may change due to the needing to adapt our design to other parameters not currently implemented.
